my name is Alessandra Jourdan
I was born and raised in the West side of Puerto Rico, surrounded by nature and ocean. Ever since I had a conscience, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Growing up I explored many branches of art, specially music, but I didn’t want to make a career out of my singing. It was a trip to Argentina that opened my eyes, the artisan markets allowed me to see clothing as a form of art. The way I was raised allowed me to create a special connection and sensibility when it comes to my surroundings, influencing the way I design. As a recent graduate from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), with my designs, I want to show that the world doesn’t have to suffer because of fashion, encouraging people to protect the world’s resources and shop sustainably. It is more common for sustainable fashion to be focused on basics, but I want to break away from this and create luxurious high fashion pieces that don’t sacrifice style or ethics, using our signature cork fabric.
